Devices designed to capture and record images. There are a variety of cameras according to the characteristics of the images to be captured and/or the technical characteristics of the device; they include photographic cameras intended to obtain still images and/or a limited sequence of images, video cameras intended to get a set of images in electronic format that can be retrieved in video displays and/or recorded; cine cameras that takes a series of images on a reel that are retrieved using a movie projector; and gamma cameras that can obtain a physiologic image of the distribution of gamma-ray-emitting radioisotopes within the human body after the injection or ingestion of a radiopharmaceutical. Dedicated photographic, cine, and video cameras intended for particular (e.g., surgery, microscope, endoscope, ophthalmologic, dental) applications are also available.
