Charts designed to present a set of symbols/characters intended to be used in assessing visual function. These devices usually consist of graphical charts with symbols (e.g. shapes, dots) arranged in particular patterns, either using a solid substrate (e.g., paper, plastic), an electronic screen, or overhead projector images. Eye charts are used mainly in healthcare facilities, ophthalmologist offices, and in the field to assess visual abnormities; dedicated charts intended for testing particular characteristics (e.g., visual acuity, color vision, contrast sensitivity) are available.
