Devices resembling soft pillows or pads designed to provide comfort, alleviation of pain, and/or to facilitate positioning of a person. These devices typically consist of a soft material (e.g., foam) frequently inserted in a waterproof fabric or plastic case; some cushions are manufactured as inflatable (e.g., vinyl, rubber) devices. Cushions with a hole in the center (i.e., ring cushions) are also available to accommodate a person during specific activities (e.g., commode seats), to alleviate pain from hemorrhoids, or after surgical or other procedures (e.g., labor).
