Adapters (optical couplers) designed to connect a laser source to a fiber-optic laser delivery system. These devices typically consist of an optical connector that collimates and focuses the energy supplied by the laser source into the fiber-optic delivery system. Some laser sources have a connector that makes possible direct coupling to the fiber-optic system and do not need additional couplers; the couplers are especially necessary for diode lasers because the laser light emitted by a diode is larger than that for other types of laser energy (e.g., up to 45 degrees versus less than 15 degrees).
