Instruments designed for the manual mechanical crushing of renal stones (calculi) in the urinary tract and/or bladder. These devices are typically consist handheld manual instruments with a distal end appropriate for grasping and crushing the stones and an attached handle designed to manipulate the instrument and apply the manual force needed to crush the stone. Lithotrites are used, frequently through the working channel of a cystoscope, to crush renal stones until the fragments are small enough to be extracted using irrigation and suctioning devices.
