  • Endoscopes designed for percutaneous insertion into the spinal cord to examine sites in the lumbar region, such as the lumbar epidural space, the subarachnoid space, and syrinx cavities. These endoscopes have very small outer diameters (e.g., from 0.5 to 2.3 mm). Myeloscopes may be used either preoperatively to obtain morphologic information, which is useful in diagnoses and planning surgical strategy, or intraoperatively to examine areas outside the field of vision of the microscopes.
