  • Nerve locators designed to locate a facial nerve by applying an electrical stimulus with a probe and comparing muscle responses as the probe is moved. These devices typically include a peripheral nerve electrical stimulator, appropriate electrodes, sensors to detect muscle response (e.g., strain gauges, electrical sensors), and audible and/or visual displays. Most facial nerve locator stimulators generate rectangular waveform currents to stimulate nerve fibers and produce muscular contractions; some also produce triangular-waveform currents.
