Laboratory breath analyzers used for intermittent (usually periodic) measurements of oxygen content in a breath and/or in respiratory gas sample. These analyzers usually require manual aspiration of a quantity of gas into a sampling chamber. These analyzers may operate on several basic principles (e.g., paramagnetism). Oxygen breath analyzers are used in pulmonary function tests and to monitor critically ill patients, such as infants in incubators and patients breathing air with supplemental oxygen added.
