  • Holders designed to hold surgical retractors in place during surgery and provide a mechanism for controlling the amount of retraction needed in the surgical field. Automatic surgical retractor holders typically have a sturdy metal frame (usually with articulating parts that can be locked into place) with clamps at one end which attach to the operating table or other nearby structure and handles or clamps at the other end to hold one or more retractors in position above the patient; they all have some type of adjustment mechanism that controls the position of the holder which in turn will adjust the position of the retractors and the amount of retraction in the surgical field.
