Containers designed to provide an enclosure during the various steps of the sterilization cycle and subsequent storage and transport of sterilized devices. Most of these containers consist of a box with silicone rubber gaskets to seal their lids. The lid and base are held together by latches (some include locks with keys) and are perforated to permit the sterilant to enter; bacterial filters cover the perforations to maintain the sterility of the contents during storage. Surgical instruments are secured in an instrument tray with pegs or dividers and placed, unwrapped, into the sterilization container. Sterilization containers may be also used to return soiled instruments and supplies to the central sterilization service.
