Neuromuscular electrical stimulators designed to apply electrical stimuli to stabilize or limit the progression of the spinal lateral curvature (scoliosis). These stimulators typically consist of a pulse generator and surface electrodes placed on the spine; implantable devices linked to an external power source are less frequently used. The stimulation treatment is usually applied at nighttime while the patient is sleeping; the stimulators are used mainly in children and adolescents who have idiopathic scoliosis.
