?:definition
  • Tents designed to provide a suspension of liquid or solid particles (i.e., aerosol) for patient breathing. These tents typically consist of a pliable plastic sheet held by a plastic or metallic frame that is suspended as a canopy above the bed; adult aerosol treatment tents typically cover only the head and part of the torso. The tents are usually connected to an aerosol source through wide-bore tubing. The use of aerosol treatment tents avoids the need to directly attach a nasal cannula, face mask, or endotracheal tube to the patient. These tents are especially useful for treatment of breathing disorders (e.g., asthma) in patients who cannot tolerate such attachments.
