?:definition
  • Tubes designed for access to the bronchi through the mouth or nose for examination, treatment, or other purposes except ventilation. These tubes typically consist of very small diameter rubber or polymeric flexible hollow cylinders with a length and other physical characteristics (e.g., flexibility) appropriate for reaching the bronchi. Bronchial tubes are used to facilitate the diagnosis of pulmonary diseases, to treat hemorrhage (i.e., tamponade), and/or to provide suction of liquid and/or other substances. Dedicated tubes intended for use in endoscopic procedures (i.e., bronchoscopic tubes) are also available.
