Needles designed to inject fluid under the skin (hypodermic) and/or other soft tissues (e.g., eye, mouth). These needles typically consist of hollow, sharply pointed, metal devices with the distal end finished in a connector (e.g., female Luer slip, Luer lock) that can be easily attached to a syringe. Hypodermic needles typically have a small diameter (e.g., 23 to 30 gauge) and length (typically 13 to 25 mm [0.5 to 1 inch]). Needles with smaller diameters used for subcutaneous injections (e.g., tuberculin, insulin) are usually marketed as hypodermic needles.
