Information systems designed to assist healthcare facilities in making decisions by effectively organizing, calculating, planning and forecasting the probable outcomes of a process or procedure through software that analyzes the healthcare facility\'s information data using an electronic format. The main focus of the decision support systems is to provide useful information to all involved in the decision making process. These systems typically consist of a combination of hardware and software. The hardware typically includes dedicated network servers and computers; the software consist of a dedicated software packages that are capable of processing information regarding clinical, financial, and/or other information needed to make major healthcare facility decisions. They may function as stand-alone systems or may be integrated in a hospital wide data management information system network. Dedicated decision support information systems are available for financial and clinical decision support.
