Middle-ear physiologic analyzers that measure the amplitude of the sound waves reflected off the tympanic membrane as a function of the distance from a sound source; the results are usually shown in a display and/or recorded as a graphic. These analyzers include a pulsed sound source and a microphone that picks up the sum of the emitted sound and the sound source reflected back, the higher the x, the higher the nullification or reinforcement of the sound waves.
