Laboratory blood gas analyzers designed to be used to assess some metabolites in addition to measuring concentrations of blood gas, pH, and electrolytes. These analyzers can directly measure pH and partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PCO2) and oxygen (PO2), the most common ions (i.e. sodium [Na+], potassium [K+], chloride [Cl-], bicarbonate [HCO3-]), and some metabolites such as calcium, magnesium, glucose, and lactate present in whole blood.
