Embolectomy/thrombectomy catheters designed to pulverize (i.e., fragment) a clot into particles. These catheters usually include an external handheld motor drive that spins a rotating device (e.g., an expandable open-wire cage, a nylon brush) located at or near the distal tip of the catheter. The resultant slurry may be aspirated through the catheter sheath or dissolved using a thrombolytic agent.
