Vascular retrieval catheters that include forceps for grasping and removal of foreign objects. These catheters may include flexible forceps mounted on a small-lumen (e.g., 3 Fr) stainless steel shaft; single-tooth (rat tooth) and multiple-tooth (alligator type) forceps are available. Grasping retrieval catheters can grab an object any place along its length, including the middle portion, eliminating the need for repositioning of the object as an initial stage to the procedure. Positioning the catheter immediately adjacent to the foreign body before exposing the forceps is recommended to minimize the risk of vascular injury.
