Vascular catheters that include ultrasound transducers at or near their distal tips. These catheters are used for obtaining intravascular images of the vasculature or to determine the flow velocity according to the Doppler frequency shift principle; some of them have been used in angioplasty procedures. Catheters that combine ultrasound capabilities with other techniques (balloon angioplasty, atherectomy) are also used, most of them in coronary catheterization procedures.
