  • Hyperthermia ultrasound therapy systems designed for heating of deep-seated tumors. These systems consist of a radio-frequency generator and interstitial or intracavitary applicators including appropriate ultrasound transducers, a temperature sensor, and a feedback system for controlling the power delivery. Interstitial hyperthermia systems are capable of applying energy inside the tumors, making possible more uniform heating than with external applicators. Some of these systems are used simultaneously with localized radiation therapy (thermobrachytherapy); but other systems using convective cooling can only apply hyperthermia and radiation sequentially.
