  • Physiologic monitors designed for continuous measurement and display of information of the electrical activity of the brain and the associated electroencephalogram (EEG) that are hard-wired to the patient at the bedside. These monitors include a central unit with electronic circuits that can process a signal from electrodes that may be placed on a patient\'s scalp and/or forehead; intracranial (e.g., subdural, epidural) and nasopharyngeal electrodes are sometimes used. Bedside EEG monitors can display the numerical values and trends of the received signals, the EEG waveform, and may support a variety of signal-processing and display techniques, depending on the application (e.g., monitoring of intensive care patients). The monitors may be used as a component of a physiologic monitoring system that also include a central station and/or auxiliary displays. Dedicated bedside monitors intended for spectral analysis such as compressed spectral array and/or density spectral array are also available.
