Monitors designed for continuous measurement and display at a central station monitor of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pressure inside the skull and/or the meningeal membranes taken from a distant location through a point-to-point radio or other appropriate communication link (i.e., telemetric). These monitors typically consist of a main unit clipped to the patient\'s gown (or carried in a pouch) and includes electronic circuits that can process signals from invasive sensors (e.g., pressure transducers) placed in the skull and/or spine and a pocket-sized, battery-powered transmitter. The monitor also includes a receiver that is integral or associated to the central station where the information is displayed. Intracranial telemetric pressure monitors are used after cranial trauma or surgery and for continuous checking of hydrocephaly; they are also used to facilitate the evaluation of malfunction or obstruction in hydrocephaly shunts.
