Needles designed for injection into the bones (i.e., intraosseus). These devices usually consist of relatively small-diameter (e.g., 30 gauge), short-length needles that can penetrate directly into the bone without bending or breaking during injection. Intraosseous needles frequently include a stainless steel sliding sheath to provide the necessary stability. Intraosseous needles are used frequently in emergency situations to inject medication and other fluids into the bones.
