Respirators designed to prevent the wearer from inhaling airborne particulates, gases, and/or vapors from the environment by supplying air from a source other than the surrounding air to the user. Air-supplying respirators typically include a mask, hoses, and a source of air; they are available either as self-contained devices that include the source or air or as devices that should be connected to a stationary source of compressed air. Air-supplying respirators must supply air that meets specific requirements, such as grade D air, as defined by the Compressed Gas Association.
