External defibrillators that require the user tp apply the electrodes to the patient and activate the unit; the defibrillator then analyzes the ECG rhythm to determine if a defibrillation shock is needed, activating on-screen messages and/or voice prompts to operate the device and to deliver the shock if needed. The simple design and ease of use of semiautomated defibrillators requires little training and operational skill compared to conventional manual defibrillators.
