  • Computed tomography (CT) scanning systems in which the table moves the patient into the gantry and the x-ray tube rotates around the patient in such a way that each revolution produces one slice. Axial CT scanners are classified according to the geometry of the x-ray tube detector system in generations (e.g., first, second). Typical scanning time for each slice is on the order of a few seconds. These systems are mostly used for diagnostic and examination purposes, including the diagnosis of injuries, lesions, and malignancies.
