Computerized network devices designed to establish dedicated paths between end users (i.e., personal computers), providing communication channels between them. These devices are typically electronic units with circuits that work as switches; network switches are usually capable of inspecting data packets and may also store and subsequently forward information, offering better performance than a hub. By delivering each message only to the device for which it is intended, a network switch facilitates the use of multiple computers and/or other devices together in the same local area network; network switches may be specific for use in a particular network model and/or with equipment from a specific manufacturer.
