  • Systems designed for vessel harvesting usingminimally invasive surgical techniques. These systems include several instruments, such as dissecting and harvesting rods and scalpels usually introduced through a trocar or cannula, and are used to dissect and cauterize the harvested vessel and its branches; the instruments are typically supplied as a disposable kit that may also include a dedicated rigid endoscope with a camera at its distal tip. Harvesting systems are available that include all the external reusable components needed for operation, such as lamps, specialized arms to manipulate cutting blades and other instruments (usually attached to the operating table), and retractors and other components; some systems that include external multipurpose units such as a monitor, insufflator, radiofrequency generator, image processor, and light sources usually mounted on a cart or rack are also available. Harvested veins (e.g., saphenous vein, radial and/or internal mammary artery) from the limbs and/or thorax for are used mainly as bypass grafts in coronary artery surgical procedures but are sometimes used to replace peripheral (e.g., lower limb) vessels.
