Pedestals designed as a common component of surgical tables, the pedestals may be attached to one of several different interchangeable tabletops according to the surgical procedure to be performed. These pedestals typically consist of a fixed base (e.g., a column, lateral supports) that may be mounted on a movable, swivel-caster base. Tabletops on top of the pedestals are raised or lowered by mechanical gears or hydraulic piston systems using manual controls (e.g., cranks, footpedals) or electrical controls (e.g., footpedals, levers, remote-controlled units). Operating table pedestals attached to an appropriate tabletop may be used for one or more of a variety of surgical specialties(e.g., general surgery, gynecology/urology, ophthalmology/ENT, orthopedic, neurosurgery, spinal, vascular surgery).
