Dental knives designed to cut tissues around the teeth (i.e., periodontic). These knives typically consist of handheld, manual instruments with a handle and an integral cutting blade at one or both of the distal ends (i.e., single or double ended). They are available in a variety of blade shapes (e.g., flat, triangular) and sizes according to the periodontal procedure to be performed. Dedicated periodontal knives are available for particular procedures such as interdental gum cutting and/or removal; they can also be used for gingival contouring.
