  • Alarm systems designed to activate audible and/or visual signals when patients attempt to move from a designated area such as a chair, wheelchair, bed, or room. These alarm systems are typically comprised of sensors deployed to determine the patient\'s location and connected to an electronic control unit. Occupancy alarm systems have several possible configurations and usually include one transmitter which can be used interchangeably with several sensors such as leg cuffs, floor mats, clothing clips, pressure pads and infrared motion detectors. Some occupancy alarm systems can also use two different sensors at the same time such as a bed pressure pad and an infrared motion detector. Some occupancy alarm systems can interface with nurse call systems providing remote alarms. Occupancy alarm systems are used to alert caregivers that a patient has or is attempting to move. Occupancy alarm systems can help reduce the likelihood of falls and can promote speedy assistance to patients who have already fallen by alerting caregivers that a patient who should not get up unassisted is doing so.
