Catheters designed to be introduced through the rectum that are long enough to be advanced until the distal tip is located in the middle or distal portion of the colon. These catheters typically consist of single or multilumen tubes made of silicone rubber or plastic (e.g., Teflon). Colon catheters are used for irrigation (i.e., clearing out) of the large bowels, for drainage, and/or for manometric measurements. Dedicated colon catheters intended for delivery of stents and/or management of fecal incontinence (typically indwelling catheters) and to perform other treatments are also available.
