Alloys with a composition that usually melts at temperatures below the temperature of boiling water (100 degrees Celsius [212 degrees Fahrenheit]) and that are commonly known as low-temperature melting alloys. These alloys include a variety of metal compositions; low-temperature melting alloys can expand up to 3.3% when solidifying from liquid to solid, this property permits its expansion to cover possible holes in casting procedures. An eutectic alloy that melts at 70 degrees Celsius (158 degrees Fahrenheit) and has a composition of 50% bismuth, 26.7% lead, 13.3% tin, and 10% cadmium by weight (known under the names of Wood metal, Lipowitz\'s alloy, and Cerrobend alloy) is very commonly used in manufacturing radiotherapy block shields. Alloys, not including cadmium, that melt at 95 degrees Celsius (203 degrees Fahrenheit) are also frequently used. Low-temperature melting alloys are mainly used for healthcare purposes in dedicated molding rooms to manufacture radiotherapy block shields. The molding rooms are frequently located in the healthcare facility that provides the radiotherapy treatment. The alloys are less frequently used in other healthcare applications (e.g., dentistry).
