Cervical spine orthoses designed to provide support and some degree of movement restriction of the cervical segment of the spine. These orthoses usually consist of soft (usually prefabricated foam) structures encircling the neck (i.e., collars); they are frequently made of light plastic and/or other soft materials. Soft collar cervical spine support orthoses also provide limited restriction of head, neck, and cervical spine lateral and rotational motion; they are used mainly to alleviate pain and for short-term care of patients after injuries or surgery.
