  • Contrast media removal systems that consist of a coronary sinus aspiration catheter and a vacuum suction device that is introduced through a vein sheath that is already in place to support the primary procedure on the heart. This system is designed to directly aspirate and remove through vacuum suction a significant quantity of iodine-based contrast media as it leaves the coronary sinus before it reaches the systemic circulation and kidneys. The catheter through which the contrast agents are removed stays in place for the duration of the procedure and the system can be activated multiple times throughout the heart procedure. A coronary sinus vacuum/aspiration contrast media removal system is used during heart procedures such as angioplasty and stenting. Removal of the iodine-based contrast media is intended to reduce the patient\'s risk for developing contrast-induced nephropathy.
