Hip lower-limb orthoses designed for external modification of the structural and/or functional characteristics hip joint during therapeutic (e.g., static therapy) procedures to treat developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) in children. These orthoses may consist of a variety of devices, many of which keep the hip joints in the abducted position, and the degree of flexion and control of movement is different for each orthoses. Developmental dysplasia hip orthoses are intended for quasi-continuous use during several weeks by infants suffering the disease; the orthoses have been used also to treat hip dislocations in infants.
