Upper-limb orthoses encompassing the hand and fingers that are designed to stabilize the hand by providing immobilization and support to the hand and one or more fingers and/or the thumb. These orthoses may consist of a variety of devices that includes a structure that encircles the forearm while permitting wrist normal movements. The orthosis may include dorsal, palmar (volar), or both types of adjustable solid stays attached along the hand and fingers. Hand-finger orthoses permit appropriate positioning of the fingers and thumb according to the user needs. The orthoses are used for immobilization during rehabilitation and/or for treatment and/or during normal daily activities (i.e., functional) use.
