Serology reagents intended to detect antigens to Arenavirus, a genus of enveloped single-stranded RNA viruses of the family Arenaviridae. Some types of this virus may cause acute hemorrhagic fever (e.g., Lassa, Machupo, Junin, Guanarito, Sabia) in humans; other types may rarely infect humans, infrequently causing mild diseases (e.g., Lymphocytic Choriomeningitis virus may cause aseptic meningitis or an influenza-like illness). Each type of Arenavirus is usually associated with a specific rodent species by which the virus is transmitted to humans.
