Molecular assay reagents intended to identify rubella virus, an RNA virus of the family Togaviridae, by detecting the ribonucleic acid (RNA) of the target virus. Rubella virus is the cause of an acute, usually benign infection, often affecting children; the disease is characterized by a pink rash beginning on the head and spreading to become generalized. Transplacental infection of the fetus may occur. Rubella is also called also German measles and, in French and Spanish, rubeola.
