Microbiology reagents intended to identify antimicrobial-resistant species of Enterococcus, a spherical-to-ovoid coccus of the family Streptococcaceae, by detecting the target bacteria, usually through tests performed on bacteria cultures. Some members of the Enterococcus genus are part of the common flora of the intestinal tract of humans, but some (e.g., E. faecalis) can cause urinary tract infections, endocarditis, and bacteremia.
