Molecular assay reagents intended to identify species of Mycobacterium, a genus of slow-growing bacteria of the family Mycobacteriaceae, by detecting specific genetic information of the ribosomal ribonucleic acid (rRNA) of the target bacteria. Some species of these bacteria are the etiologic agents of human tuberculosis and leprosy; other species may cause pulmonary diseases, lymphadenitis in children, and systemic illness in immunocompromised people (e.g., AIDS patients).
