Immunoassay reagents intended to perform qualitative and/or quantitative analyses on a body fluid sample (e.g., serum) to determine antiglutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD) antibodies. GAD antibodies are found in patients during the development of diabetes mellitus caused by autoimmune destruction of pancreatic beta-cell. Measurement of anti-GAD antibodies level is mostly used as a preclinical screening test to predict the development of diabetes in close relatives of patients with type I (i.e., insulin dependent) diabetes.
