Immunoassay reagents intended to perform qualitative and/or quantitative analyses on a body fluid sample (e.g., serum, plasma) to determine nortriptyline, a secondary tricyclic amine drug of the dibenzocycloheptadiene class that is a metabolite of amitriptyline. Nortriptyline has therapeutic use as an antidepressant and analgesic. It is administered as nortriptyline hydrochloride to treat symptoms of depression and chronic pain. Reagents used to determine nortriptyline concentration in blood differentiate therapeutic levels (typically very low) from toxic levels due to overdose.
