Immunoassay reagents intended to perform qualitative and/or quantitative analyses on a body fluid sample (typically whole blood or urine) to determine in a short period of time, typically several minutes, the luteinizing hormone (LH). LH causes release of the ovum from the ovarian follicle and, following ovulation, the transformation of the ruptured follicle into the corpus luteum (luteinization). Rapid tests for LH are typically performed to determine ovulation for conception purposes.
