?:definition
  • Immunoassay reagents intended to perform qualitative and/or quantitative analyses on a body fluid sample (e.g., serum) to determine pancreatic elastase, a serine endopeptidase. There are two types of elastase: elastase I, which is anionic, and elastase II, which is cationic. The level of elastase 1 in serum is a specific indicator of pancreatitis; high levels are also associated with carcinoma of the pancreas. Measurements of elastase 1 in feces is also used for assessing the exocrine pancreatic function in cystic fibrosis patients.
