Molecular assay reagents intended to identify Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium closely resembling bacteria of the family Corynebacteriaceae, by detecting specific genetic information of the nucleic acid of the target bacteria. Listeria monocytogenes bacteria are the cause of listeriosis, which may cause in utero infections that can result in abortion, stillbirth, or premature birth; infections acquired during birth can cause cardiorespiratory distress, diarrhea, vomiting, and meningitis. Infection in adults produces meningitis, endocarditis, and disseminated granulomatous lesions.
