Immunoassay reagents intended to perform qualitative and/or quantitative analyses on a body fluid sample (typically serum) to determine acetaminophen, a drug commonly administered with analgesic and antipyretic use. Acetaminophen (also known as paracetamol) may cause severe hepatic toxicity or death when consumed in overdose quantities. Reagents used to determine acetaminophen concentration in serum are used to assess the severity of overdose and to establish an appropriate therapy, due that the initial clinical findings of acetaminophen toxicity are mild and nonspecific.
