  • Exploratory probes designed for introduction into an anal or rectal fistula and that are mainly intended for exploratory purposes. These probes typically consist of slender flexible metal or plastic cylinders with that can be passed through the fistula. They may be attached to a handle at the proximal end; fistula probes can be flexible or rigid. Anal/rectal fistula probes are inserted through the external opening of the fistula, usually to find the complete path of the fistula and to identify the internal openings of the fistula. Fistula exploratory probes are intended to be used in diagnostic and/or surgical procedures on anal/rectal fistulas; they may also be used in some renal and arteriovenous fistula surgical procedures.
