Simulators designed for tension pneumothorax management training. These simulators usually include an anatomic model of the human torso with life-size anatomic reproductions of the skin, ribcage, and pleural chamber (usually disposable) and an air pump. Emergency medical technicians and other healthcare workers can practice needle insertion or performance of thoracotomy including the simulation of air escape from the pleural chamber with the same equipment used on actual patients. The anatomic model of the human torso provided with these simulators may include different body types and sizes such as infant, pediatric, adult, and bariatric.
